Sealant Test Results, M105.

During the course of the month, Charles, the owner of the car which the sealants were applied on, did not apply any Quick Detailer, or any spray wax of any sorts to the roof. It was only washed with shampoo.

After the wash, we could notice that all four areas where sealants were applied, looks better than the control area, which looked more 'flat'. The holograms were also a lot worse in the centre control area.

Could this mean that the fillers in the sealants are still there?

And I am one who believes that water beading/sheeting does not indicate protection, however I do not know of any other way to test for protection besides water repellency.

So on with the pictures, after washing the car, we lay a blanket of water on the roof of the car, and allow it to sheet of slowly by itself.























As shown in the sequence of pictures above, Zaino Z2 sheeted off water the fastest compared to the other sealants. This was followed by Duragloss 105 which was 2nd fastest, and Meguiar's #21 2.0 sealant and Osren Crystal Block Sealant were almost the same.

We then tried to test for the amount of bonded dirt that could not be washed of. An equal area is taped off in each respective section.



We then used Duragloss 501, which is an all-in-one (cleans, polishes and protects), to clean the paint and see which has the least or most dirt.







Initially, we found Osren had the most dirt, followed by Zaino Z2 and DG 105, and finally M21 2.0, which had the least dirt.
But it was not consistent as different persons were applying the AIO, therefore we scrapped off the dirt in paint experiment.

Nevertheless, Charles noticed that M21 2.0 had the most water spots compared to the other panels.

So in conclusion, even though the sealant shows that it is strongly there by repelling water very quickly, it does not mean your paint is 100% clean. Dirt can still bond to the paint and cannot be washed away with a normal wash with shampoo.

So what do we do with a daily driver that is always parked outside?

My friend Johari suggested that a wax/sealant with cleaners will be ideal. After a wash, just top it up with a wax/sealant that will clean a bit. Although it may not clean as thoroughly as a paint cleaner/polish, it saves time and effort for a daily driver.

Unless you wash your car everyday, then dirt will have a much lesser chance to bond to the paint.

Meguiar's #105 Ultra Cut Compound

We also had a sample of M105 that day and decided to try it on Charles' car.

Kok Yi is using M105 and an LC 4ply wool pad.







ahh, good result in the hands of a master. Keep in mind that it is hard paint.

He then followed it with Menzerna 106FF on a Meg's polishing pad.



Spreading the product and the worked till translucent.



And the results under a bright LED light









So that concludes the use of M105, it's quite fast working and does not leave heavy holograms compared to the regular M85.

Out of curiosity, I sanded a small area of my test panel.
